Tabora Region is well known of growing tobacco. The history of tobacco growing in Tanzania goes back to early sixties.
Production Trend

• Tobacco production trend for the past three years show that there was an increase in production from 55,357 tons produced in the financial year 2007/2008 to 94,243 tones produced during the financial year 2009/2010. However, production for the year under review when compared to previous year (2008/2009) shows that there is an increase of 33,502 tons equivalent to 55% increase.
• The production increased by 118.27% above the predetermined production target of 79,683 tons determined during the tobacco evaluation season.The increase in production of tobacco above the target was due to an increase in tobacco growers from 59,993 of 2008/2009 to 84,289 in the year under review.
